DESCRIPTION
This module is ideally suited to obstacle detection, typically seen in project robots and entry alarms. Sensitivity adjustment and reduced susceptibility to interference makes this module an ideal candidate for any obstacle avoidance robot or intruder alert system.
Working at a low 5V input the module will output LOW on detecting an object and HIGH while not detecting. Two onboard potentiometers allow for the IR LED to have it's brightness altered and for the detectors sensitivity to be varied. This provides a means of adjusting the module to be more sensitive to particular materials and over different distances.
A mounting hole ensures you have some method of mounting the unit to the robot. The board also features a jumper that enables the module. The 4th pin (EN) allows the module to be activated and deactivated remotely. With the jumper removed the module will be inactive until a HIGH signal is provided on the EN pin.
IR (Infrared) is in a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is invisible to the naked eye. As such testing this module can be troublesome. A nice little trick to help; take a digital camera or smartphone camera and point the camera at the LED while it is lit. You will find most digital cameras show a gentle purple glow from the LED when it is lit.
